8-day hiking holiday Turkey

guided group tour

The guided group hiking holiday starts in Turkey, in the town of Fethiye. Fethiye is a very suitable location for a wonderful hiking holiday. The hikes go over unpaved paths, interspersed with some steeper stretches.

The hiking trails in Turkey contain a mix of culture, nature and of course there are also archaeological sites in the area.

The permanent base in Fethiye is a cosy family hotel, run by a Turkish/Belgian family, located at a stone's throw from the lively boulevard. The first 4 days you will stay in the hotel in Fethiye and the last 3 days in an authenticly built stone house in Yakaköy. This house also has the luxury of a swimming pool and is situated on a mountainside with many roof terraces. Outdoor sleeping under the starry sky is recommended!

During the holidays there is extensive cooking with local ingredients. You will certainly be pampered with typical Turkish dishes.

The 3th day is scheduled as a rest day scheduled before you continue to the next hiking trails.

Hiking in Fethiye (Turkey)

Fethiye is located in the southwest of Turkey and is situated right by the sea. The surroundings of this town have a lot to offer to the hiker: flora, fauna, culture, beach, sea and a friendly population. Fethiye is surrounded by large mountains and, unlike many other coastal towns, is not yet overflown by tourists. It is a traditional working city full of activity, a port with fishing boats and a luxury marina. The throbbing heart of Fethiye is formed by Paspartur, with narrow streets with shops and restaurants.

The archaeological sites are just a few steps away. The rich historical past of this area can be found everywhere in the street image.

Hiking Fethiye - Afkule

This is one of the most challenging and interesting walks on this peninsula. This hike takes us first to Afkule, where a monastery has been carved from the rocks. Then we leave Afkule north towards Hacbeli. The walk to the North gives you the best views of the Fethiye Bay. On the way we encounter archaeological sites from various periods of history, such as the children's tombs from the Lycian period and Byzantine-era churches. Then we descend to Belen.

Hiking time: approx. 7 hours
Overnight Stay: Fethiye (Hotel)

Hike Kelebekler-Kabak

We start in Faralya, a vast village on the ridge next to the Butterfly and Kabak valleys. The inhabitants of Faralya and neighboring village Kabak live mainly from honey cultivation and agriculture. The coast is still quite untouched here. Kabak is the next cove after the Butterfly Valley (Kelebek Vadis) and is enclosed by impressive mountains. Arriving in the village of Kabak we descend steeply down through a wooded path. When we arrive at the bay you can take a swim if you desire. On the way we see impressive vistas of e.g. the beach of Kabak.
Hiking time: approx. 5 hours
Overnight Stay: Fethiye (Hotel)

Hike Cabatuan

We hike between the fields and the small peasant farms in the country. On this route we see the peasants turn into half nomads during our climb. These peasants move high up into the mountains during the summer period and they only go back to their village in winter. At one of these 'nomad families' we will take a look and talk about their daily lives and we drink a glass of tea together. We have lunch on the way in a beautiful place in the middle of the fields. In this part of Turkey, because of the mild climate, several harvests of vegetables are common every year. A variety of fruits and vegetables, and even cotton, are cultivated. The spring is particularly beautiful because of the fruit blossoms and the almond trees. From September onwards the harvest begins, e.g. pomegranates and olives.
Hiking time: approx. 5 hours
Overnight Stay: Yakaköy (Mountain House)

Hike Tartişik - Akinlar

This hike starts from the village. First we pass small houses and many differently cultivated fields. We then come closer to the forest and walk along large apple orchards. Further up through the pine forests that change into cedar trees and juniper trees as we go higher to above 1,000 meters. The view is immense. We have a view of the beautiful green valleys and in clear weather even of two seas. We have a picnic on the way. In addition, we may have to occasionally maneuver through a herd of sheep or goats. Before they on with their shepherd, bells tingling.
Hiking time: approx. 6 hours
Overnight Stay: Yakaköy (Mountain House)

Hike Gökpinar

On the flanks of the mountain range we walk to Arsaköy. The route takes us gradually up and down. Arsaköy is the place where a lot of apples, pomegranates and olives come from. We go to a local farmer for a visit and see what he is doing at the moment. Perhaps we can lend a helping hand with the harvesting of anise, pomegranate, tomatoes or cotton. Then we hike on through a fragrant coniferous forest to reach Arsaköy. On the way we encounter the Lycian tombs of Arsada. In a typical Turkish café in Arsa we drink tea.
